Marfy Patterns Wool Winter Coat: Planning
I am a Hallmark Movie junkie. I love them no matter my mood or what is going on. They are delightfully colorful and stress free, even when Aurora Teagarden is investigating a murder, it is still strangely light. I feel like a lot of that is the pastel and bright palette they commit to. This coat I am envisioning would fit in perfectly on the street of a Valentine's Day movie.
The Pattern
I am planning on using Marfy 3511 for this project. The trench coat I made last year was also a Marfy pattern. I fell instantly in love with the drafting, so I am looking forward to working with this pattern brand again this year. These patterns do take a little extra work. They come with out seam allowances or instructions. It also does not account for interfacing pieces or specific lining pieces, so these all need to be drafted at home off the pattern, but I love the elegance of the patterning. The pieces are so well drafted and fit together so beautifully. I am planning a few small changes. I will exclude the belt buckle, the and pocket welts and the epaulettes. Small changes, but I think it will make the design a little softer and more yin.
The Fabric
For Christmas last year, I bought myself some dusty pink coating from Mood Fabrics online shop. I just instantly fell in love with the color of fabric and thought it would add a little something extra to the already interesting Marfy 3511. I am planning to underline the coat with a light weight cotton batiste or muslin. Since the outer fabric is 100% wool, I won't be needing to add the additional layer of flannel like I did with the trench. The bastiste is only to conceals hand stitching since it alone, and not the fashion fabric, will catch the hand stitches. The other inner materials will be the same. I will also be using the following interfacing strategy:
