Belmont Patterns: Artsy Peplum Top
Hello my darlings! I hope this finds you well.
I made a little top recently that is a little different than anything that I have made before. I have not ever worn or owned a peplum top, not really sure why. It just hasn't ever made it to my closet. Lately I have been very interested in the Kibbe styling system and this concept was recommended for my "body type", so I thought I would give it a go.
I think that the Kibbe system is really interesting. It is different than any other system that I have come across before. It is about how much balance of yin and yang you have in your body. It makes a lot of sense to me, but it is not as easy to explain as the fruit examples that you frequently see in the style guides. Without looking into this view point, I probably wouldn't have ever tried this silhouette.
The cotton is a left over from a By Hand London Charlotte Skirt that I made a couple months back. It is a light wight cotton poplin from Mood Fabrics. I started with the top portion of the Rifle Paper Co. dress I just made. I liked the fit in the shoulders and the neckline. The skirt portion came from the skirt of the Sew Over It Betty pattern. I did decrease the flare just a little.
I closed the back of the top with a sport zipper. and clean finished the unlined portion of inside with a self made binding. The hem is hand finished. I like hand sewing work. True, it is slow, but there is something almost meditative about the action. After a long hard day combating work and motherhood, it can relax and center me.
I hope you get to do some sewing, my Lovelies!
